Age 8-16 Traditional Pathway

  • Join Private academy and/or Grassroots club
  • Invited to Pre Academy/Development Centre 
  • Invited for 6 week pro-trials 
  • Offered Academy contract 

Aged  17- 19 Traditional Pathways

There are a number of specialist 6th form (post 16) football and education colleges offering full time football with A-levels and B-Tec Sports Qualifications 

  1. Opportunities to play in FA Youth Club
  2. College Leagues
  3. Semi Professional Youth & First Teams 

Case study: Steven Alzate’s Journey

Steven started with League team Soccerlution (IFA) aged 7, he trained with the Fulham Development centre for one year and was offered a contract aged 9. He was released from Fulham age 13  due to his physical size. He returned to Soccerlution before joining Leyton Orient. He was offered a scholarship by Orient and then joined Brighton in 2017. He received his first international call-up by the Colombian national team in 2019. Steven was born in Camden.
